Not the freeway bike hike

It is easy for people and politicians to ride once a year 30 km on the Mitchell freeway that is closed to traffic, but this does not give any real indication of what it feels like to be a bicycle commuter commuting between the Perth CBD and the northern suburbs.  The producer of this video clip rode on the Mitchell freeway principal shared path (PSP) instead of the freeway as part of the Freeway Bike Hike, and this is what he experienced.  Annoyingly (if your are a cyclist) it takes about 50% longer to ride the path compared to riding on the freeway, and it is a lot more dangerous.

The video highlights the poor infrastructure development and promotion of cycling. While the Western Australian state government has released the draft Western Australian Bike Network Plan there is not much hope in the plan for singificant development and improvement of the Mitchell Freeway principal shared path (PSP) in the near fure.
