A call for the introduction of Strict Liability Legislation and Sustainable Road Safety in order to prevent further preventable loss of life on our roads.
This would appear to be modelled on the laws and road safety principles in Holland. The wording of the petition is not optimal, but I guess this would be taken care of if it gets the required amount of signatures.

’1 metre matters’ is a catchy, well intentioned jingle or slogan, however the distance is not enough. 1.5m ( The UK highway code advises 6 feet of clearance)is required to allow a safe cushion and to ensure that rider is more visible to vehicles behind the overtaker as sometimes the rider is hidden from view to subsequent overtaking vehicles due to typical driver short-sightedness.
I agree, and so does the office of road safety. Depending on speed the clearance should be bigger. However I go with the Dutch, who try to avoid mixing car traffic and bicycles in areas where higher speeds would indicate large clearance. If we get one meter legislated, like 28 American states do, we will go some way towards making the roads safer
