Drivers ignorant of cyclists’ rights: National Transport Commission

Drivers did not know the rights of cyclists, according to National Transport Commission research into road rules.

They were not sure about who was at fault in dooring crashes or how bike lanes were meant to be used and were confused about how to overtake a cyclist.

The findings are in a discussion paper, Review of the Australian Road Rules and Australian Vehicle Standards.

This discussion paper is open for public comment until 16 December.

The commission will consider submissions when developing a draft evaluation report by next March.
