40kph for Perth CBD – additional areas from 20 June 2011

Back in March 2011, City of Perth announced that they were introducing additional 40kph speed limits:

Introduction of a 40kph speed limit on inner-city streets has been supported by the Council of the City of Perth.

The move is aimed primarily at increasing pedestrian and cyclist safety and is consistent with arrangements in other Australian capital cities.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said that reducing the speed limit from 50kph would also heighten the sense of the city being a ‘destination’, rather than a busy thoroughfare to other suburbs.

Department of Environment and Conversation forwarded today a Introduction of 40kph in the CBD PDF indicating that this is scheduled to start on 20 June 2011.

It includes sections of St Georges Tce, William St and Hay St.
