For people who are interested in traffic solutions for vulnerable road users:
A report sponsored by the US Department of Transportation that examines how five European countries improve pedestrian and cycling participation. The report recommends transportation policies that give walking, bicycling and other non motorised modes the highest priority in the road user hierarchy.
A team of 12 transport, planning and research agencies spent two weeks meeting with officials in ten cities in five host countries.
Thanks for sharing. Going by a quick scan of the executive summary it seems a very positive report with a positive approach to pedestrian and cyclist safety. Looks like some interesting holistic ideas there. Further reading is warranted for sure.
I had a quick look into the study (will read it carefully later on), but I wonder why they did not look at the Netherlands. And in Germany I am surprised that they did not interview planers in Bremen, Münster or Freiburg. They are THE bike cities in Germany with a long standing experience. I live in Bremen, we made a film and wrote a book comparing British and German bicycle policy….

Thanks, Beatrix, and I bought the film. I hope to screen it during bikeweek at the Northbridge Piazza.
