New York tries to be cycle friendly

Janette Sadik-Khan is becoming one of my heroes. She is the Commissioner of New York’s City Department of Transportation, and is doing all kinds of clever things for vulnerable road users.

She was recently in Sydney.

She says when we look at traffic and congestion we should not count vehicle movements (as we have always done), but instead count people movements. This completely changes the focus.

During Bikeweek 2011 I will show a video where she talks about traffic in New York.
