A measly 70 trips per day on the 600 available bikes for hire in Melbourne are blamed on helmet laws. I don’t know what these people are complaining about. It is much better to have a society that occurs a $20 billion cost per year for obesity than increasing cycling participation beyond the 1.5% of commuting trips.
Or, to put it simply, “better fat than dead”.
The Melbourne Age is commenting on the apparent failure of the new bike hire scheme.
