Pedestrian zone – bicycles allowed

In this pedestrian zone in Zürich, bicycles are allowed, but the signs remind cyclists that pedestrians have priority. The sign also asks cyclists to proceed at “walking pace” (Schritttempo). There is some “Real Politik” (a German expression meaning political process that take lived reality into account) in this: In some pedestrian zones cyclist were asked to dismount, they even had police issuing fines, but it just did not work. This seems to work better.
