Late in 2009 the BTA wrote to the Nedlands City Council commenting on the dangerous access to the underpass at Karrakatta, and also at the Loch Street railway station; both these designs put cyclists at risk. The BTA included with the letter, a plan showing how both designs could be simply modified to improve safety. So it’s good to see that a start has been made on the Karrakatta ‘problem’, and hopefully Loch Street Station improvements won’t be far behind.
Karrakatta Underpass

My issue with the Karrakatta section is that the new rock garden area was extended to cover the cyclist ‘lane’ and there is now only a very narrow strip when riding to Perth. Quite a deterrant if you like to ride up small inclines as the cars show no respect to fellow users on cycles. The alternative is to use the PSP – cross 4 lanes of traffic to get on and 4 lanes of traffic to get off when travelling to Perth.
