That's exactly what I thought, Helen. And thanks for your concern. He was a good man. Too good for this Earth. It's taken me two years but finally I heard his words and I have slowed down. I only have one job now. Web designer. Last year I had three. Doco-making and teaching had to go.

Very sorry for the loss of your father :(

“SLOW . . . DOWN!” could be a euphemism for something else. Maybe life was too busy?

Just cycling can be a trap. I have been known to go somewhere and then wander off on another tangent. I used to own a car. Got rid of it and now ride or jump the train/bus when I need to take work clothes in. I am constantly reviewing the wardrobe towards the day that I DON'T have to take some in on Monday. Ruins my week.
Now on holidays, I thought this morning would be nice for a little ride and it was brilliant. OK the weather go hot just after getting home so I just had to ride down the beach for a swim. A good chill out.
back to the subject - I find riding home after work therapeutic in that I go into a pedalling zone - keep an eye out for cars and earphoned cyclists!! Apart from that it is a glorious 15 kms of unwind, usually against Freo Dr but that is fine.

I'm with you Greg. I haven't ridden much this past week due to rain / having a car in the garage, laziness. I don't think any time spent cycing just for fun is wasted time. After all, if we're not having fun and just going with the flow like you did - what the hell are we doing here?

Cycling isn't always quicker. I rode to my local video shop the other night to get a DVD. The video shop is a couple of hundred metres away. I looked at my odo when I got home. 9km. :-)

Once I was out, the weather was so nice I just kept riding! If I can be disciplined, depending where I go, if I ride straight there and straight back, at certain times of day, it is faster to ride than drive. But driving is so annoying that even if it is a bit quicker, what is the point if I just get upset? Riding is more fun!
