How much does it cost to build a PSP

Every time there is a discussion about more Principal Shared Paths, a discussion about the high cost of building these paths ensues. MainRoads WA work on the basis of $1 million per km of path, which puts a price tag of about $250million on the completion of the PBN network.

The recent round of funding for National Bike Path Projects under the Nation Building Stimulus Plan could be used to arrive at a lower cost per kilometre. The grants are for half the cost of the project, thus in the table below the cost per meter is arrived at by doubling the grant amount before dividing it by the length of the path built. Some of these paths are in concrete, some in asphalt. The average cost per meter of these projects comes to $191 (25.91 km of paths built for $4.944 million)
